Empower 20 million Africans to sustainably provide for themselves by 2032.

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)

Water is Life. Yet millions in Africa still live without it. We are changing this reality – one school, one clinic, one community at a time.

Access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) is not just crucial for African development; it’s a lifeline that empowers communities to thrive.

Our approach to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programming in Africa

At ForAfrika, we believe that access to clean water and sanitation is a fundamental human right. We provide life-saving water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services to the most vulnerable communities across Africa. Our efforts focus on delivering clean water where it is needed most—healthcare facilities, schools, ECD centres, communities, and refugee settlements—ensuring that children and families have the opportunity to thrive.

Key objectives of our Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programming

Water ForAfrika is changing lives and empowering communities across Africa through:

Healthier communities

Reduced waterborne diseases, improved health.

Boosted school attendance

Safe water and sanitation keep children in school, especially girls.

Empowered women and girls

Less time collecting water, more time for education and livelihoods.

Stronger healthcare

Reliable water access means better care for patients, mothers, and newborns.

Key interventions of our Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programming

Emergency WASH

Safe water supply

Construction of boreholes, rainwater harvesting systems, and large-scale piped-water networks to ensure clean, reliable water access.

Sanitation access

Gender-inclusive and disability-sensitive sanitation facilities in homes, schools, and health centres, providing dignity and safety for all.

In recent years, environmental challenges have become a major concern in Konso, situated in southwestern region of Ethiopia’s Southern Nations. Clean water access in Angola changes the health of an entire community

Access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene is one of the most basic human needs. Yet for the people of Italia village in central Angola, this right was interrupted in 2020. When the community’s only borehole broke down, and with no tools or spare parts to repair it, daily life quickly became a struggle. The only option left was to walk long distances to fetch water from the nearest river.
