Emergency response

The ForAfrika team in Mozambique is closely monitoring the evolving situation as Cyclone Gezani approaches the coast.

According to official communications from the National Disaster Management Institute of Mozambique (INGD),
the provinces of Inhambane, Sofala and Gaza are likely to be affected by strong winds and heavy rainfall from February 13.

Communities in these areas are already facing the impacts of prolonged heavy rains and flooding, leaving families, infrastructure and essential services highly vulnerable. The approaching cyclone is expected to compound existing risks, increasing the likelihood of displacement, damage to homes and disruption to access to safe water and food.

In anticipation of potential impacts, ForAfrika has activated its early response and preparedness measures, identifying life-saving priorities and early recovery needs. Our teams are ready to support INGD with MannaPack meals, rice, tarpaulins, blankets, cups and cooking pots to assist families at risk.

We remain in close coordination with national authorities and partners and will mobilise support to reach the most affected and vulnerable communities as the situation unfolds.
