Emergency appeal: Southern Africa floods victims need urgent humanitarian response

ForAfrika distributes MannaPack in Guara-Guara district in Sofala, Mozambique, to the communities affected by the flood.

Since late December 2025, relentless heavy rainfall has triggered severe flooding across southern and central Mozambique and South Africa’s Limpopo Province, affecting over 700, 000 people. Government authorities in Mozambique and South Africa are describing this as one of the most devastating flood emergencies in the region’s recent history.

We are calling on our supporters to help us scale up emergency response operations and reach more families with life-saving assistance.

Homes have been washed away, critical infrastructure damaged, and access to basic services including food, clean water, healthcare and education has been severely disrupted. In Mozambique, internal displacement is rising rapidly, forcing families to seek safety in overcrowded and under-resourced temporary shelters as the rainy season continues and conditions deteriorate.

Elderly people are particularly affected in Central Mozambique; humanitarian support remains their only hope.

In response, ForAfrika has activated a response alongside its partners both in Mozambique and South Africa to deliver life-saving humanitarian assistance.

  • In central Mozambique, working alongside the National Institute for Disaster Management (INGD) and local partners, ForAfrika has already reached 238 families, distributing over five tonnes of MannaPack nutritional food, providing immediate relief to households who have lost everything.
  • In South Africa, emergency support is underway through the provision of essential non-food items to protect the most vulnerable families from exposure. To date, a total of 100 blankets, 30 tarpaulins, and 50 bags of clothing have been distributed to 80 flood-affected households in Thulamela Municipality and Mopani District, while assessments continue with local partners to identify additional communities in urgent need.
