“When we arrived, people had nothing to eat,” recalls Alcidio Pangaia, ForAfrika’s Regional Manager for Sofala Province.

To restore hope, ForAfrika joined forces with the Government of Mozambique and the World Food Programme to implement the Gender-Sensitive and Nutrition-Transformative (GTNS) Project. The initiative targeted 2,001 beneficiaries and supports farmers, especially women, to rebuild livelihoods through resilience building agriculture, livestock management, and nutrition education.

Lazia Muadzangasse, a 25-year-old mother, is one of them. “We used to wake up not knowing if we’d eat that day,” she says. “Now, we work together, we plant, and we see hope growing again.”

Through training, seeds, and shared learning, families in Chemba are cultivating maize, cowpeas, and vibrant vegetables once more. Community kitchens will soon nourish children under two, ensuring no one is left behind.
