Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Appeal

The Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal have been severely affected with floods displacing thousands of people and resulting in 12 tragic fatalities so far.

Disaster overview

The north coast of the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa was hit by a devastating tornado on Monday, June 3. At least 12 people died, dozens have been injured and more than 1,200 have been displaced from their homes. Schools, roads, healthcare facilities and community venues have also been affected.

At around the same time, in Nelson Mandela Bay, in the Eastern Cape, torrential rain and floods killed at least 10 people and left more than 1,000 displaced.

ForAfrika has been responding in both areas.

Tongaat and surrounding areas, about 50km north of the city of Durban and Nelson Mandela Bay Metro and surrounding areas.

Working with emergency services and other partners, ForAfrika has procured tarpaulins, blankets and food parcels for immediate distribution to the most vulnerable people in the area.
