There are still many people without access to clean water. But we are here assisting those who need it, drilling deep into the earth to find it, building water wells, teaching sanitation and hygiene and helping with innovation. Because with water there is food. With water children can go to school. With water there is health, safety, community, stability, growth and a future. With water there is life. That is why we are dedicated to providing clean water across the African continent.
Water means families and communities can grow their own food and prepare it safely too.
When children don’t have to walk for hours to collect water for their families, they spend their time safely at school instead.
Having clean water and basic sanitation protects our communities from disease, malnutrition, and even death.
With water, communities can farm fresh produce and look after their livestock. This stimulates business activity at local markets and empowers women and girls.
Community garden: Aliza Deng Lual has joined a group of gardening women in Apanda , South Sudan. “Ever since ForAfrika fixed this shallow well, a lot has changed in my life. We were able to start this garden to grow our own vegetables. I was also given tools and skills. Now I have sorghum, ground nuts and sim sim. I can feed my children.”
Break time: A young boy enjoys refreshments between lessons at Nikuapa School in Mozambique. The school’s principal, Clarissa Nakulenga, said she struggled to keep children in class before receiving their large water tanks and toilets at the school. “We had about 25 children in each group, now we have 50-60!” she says.
Clean hands: A young child is shown to wash her hands before eating her lunch at a daycare centre in South Africa. Hygiene and good sanitation are high on our list of priorities - a simple yet very effective intervention against the spread of disease.
Water for all: Awuru Amalia smiles broadly as she pumps water from the communal well in Omugu, Uganda. The 68-year-old used to have to walk 15kms from home to get water from the river along with fellow community members who depend on farming for food and an income. The well now sits on their doorstep allowing them to access the water they need with ease- now their farms can flourish.
